Florida Licensing Requirements for Real Estate

Real Estate Sales Associate

To become a real estate agent, you must successfully complete a 63-hour course approved by the Florida Real Estate Commission; submit the appropriate application with fee; have electronic fingerprints taken through Promisor, and successfully complete the state examination. Your license is valid for two years.

Real Estate Broker 

To become a real estate broker, you must successfully complete a 72-hour course approved by the Florida Real Estate Commission, submit the appropriate application with fee, have electronic fingerprints taken through Promisor; and successfully complete the state examination. 

License Renewal 

Initial Renewal

After receiving your license, your initial renewal requires you to complete the following post license education: 

  • Sales Associates: 45 hours 
  • Broker’s License Renewal: 60 hours

After Initial Renewal 

Following your initial renewal, you will be required to renew your real estate license every two years, based on the issue date of the initial license. A total of 14 hours of continuing education is required, composed of the following courses:

  • 3 hours of Core Law
  • 3 hours of Code of Ethics
  • 8 hours of Specialty Credit

Code of Ethics Training

Realtors® are required to complete ethics training of not less than two hours, 30 minutes of instructional time within three-year cycles. The training must meet specific learning objectives and criteria established by the National Association of REALTORS®.

Only courses and equivalencies provided by a local, state, or national Realtor® association can satisfy the Code of Ethics training requirement.

Training may be completed through local Realtor® association live classroom courses or online courses. Certificates of completion must be sent to education@rpcra.org.

Complete the COE Requirement

You can satisfy the requirement by completing one of the following activities. Training must be completed at any time during these established cycles. View Current Cycle

Verify Your Status 

To verify that your record accurately reflects a Code of Ethics course you have already taken or completed online, log onto the NAR Dashboard.

Once logged in, click Education History, then Personal Education Tracking.

  • Completed: You have met the requirement and do not need to take additional training.
  • Pending: You still need to meet the requirement. Please refer to the options listed above or contact the RPCRA Professional Development Department at 239-936-3537 or education@rpcra.org for assistance.
